I got an sms from an aquaintance who works for AKxxx, asking me to do catering for her "kids" program and that her coach Cxxxx; will be looking at catering for her adults program... So of course fill with antipication and gratefulness, I launched fervently into research for vegetarian food suitable for this occassion. As I am only at the entry point of venturing into this biz of catering and baking industry for vegetarian food.
I learnt how to make carrot cake,vegan chocolate cake,vegan mini fruit tarts, vegetarian "kong ba pao", vegetarian sushi, salads and most importantly dressings using raw ingredients like cashews, walnuts, golden flax seed etc to create the purest form of salad dressings suitable for even raw food eaters and vegans alike.
Anyway, back to my initial intention for this blog...So I prepared for the food sampling of skewered fruits, carrot cake, sandwiches, and potato salad. The aquaintance and the rest of the adults testers including Cxxxx; all said that the food served was really good, and this aquaintance had confirmed with me the menu for the kids program. Carrot cake, sandwiches and potato salad. If its just me, who remembered this conversation. then I may be biased and remembered wrongly. But if my nephew Brian too remembered what this aquaintance had said to that extend that its a deal and we shook on it, for me to cater to the kids this menu of carrot cake, sandwiches and potato salad. Then I can't be wrong...
So when I wrote to asking for her re-confirmation on the menu in case that we might be wrong; she claims that she's very busy and blah blah blah...Out of courtesy I send her a text message asking for a time where she's free to talk about the confirmation for the order. She called up and told me that she is likes my food very much, but not too sure if the kids likes it too as they are from rich families and are picky eaters. So in order for me to secure some biz with the kids' parents (they have businesses of their own). I should come with another food sampling for the kids and their parents...This is strange when she especially told me that AKxxx is only catering for the kids and NOT the parents and they dont care about the parents. And how she is offering me the opportunity to get some biz from the parents...She acts as if she controls the purse string of these parents...I wonder if all staff of AKxxx acts like that...especially when they have some kind of position in the company...
And when the tasters for my food told me that they know for a fact that the kids are picky lot, and their method to get them to eat is that to tell them that's what is going to be serve and nothing else, and of course peer pressure to get them to eat what's being served....I wonder why this aquaintance is wanting me to come back with another food sampling for the kids and getting the approval from the kids...to me its like being slap on 1 side of the face and offering the other side of my face to be slap...
When I talked to her she said she is only getting my carrot cake 2kg for the 13th march program, and then see how it goes with the response of it. if its good only then she will order more from me...when during the taste test she told me that its settled that I be catering 100 kids on 2 occassions. During the telecon she was blatanly telling me that would I rather have this 1 time deal or perhaps have the opportunity to have more deals with her company blah blah blah...So I told her I rather take this 1 time opportunity and not willing to go with the idea she is offering for the kids parents to get me to cater just because they owned businesses. I rather have the bird in hand than 2 in the bush.
When I tried asking if her previous caterers offer food sampling her response to me was that she dont let those caterers in, unless she knows them even if they are well-known in the industry. Which is very strange to me, for I dont really know her very well. I only had the chance to meet her once. And she said that because she knows me that's why she is offering the chance to cater to her "kids".
And I again had the verbal agreement with her to say that I am going to supply her a 2kg carrot cake for the 13th event, and as for the rest of the opportunity I am willing to forgo. She agreed and I said that I will send her a Purchase Order for the 2kg carrot cake, which I did. And now she is telling me that she is busy and will revert back to me soon. 13th march is coming up really soon. And I seriously doubt that she's going to give me the order. Even if she does get back to me for the order...dont tink I am going to accept it, because my carrot cake needs to be marinated 24 hrs prior steaming or else the results are not good. I will not forsake my principles of serving good food just to get a deal.
And for that coach-Cxxxx. I wrote her a mail asking for confirmation of order to cater for the 100 adults...Her reply is that she dont know when the date of the event is...when she wrote to me earlier emails that this is a monthly event held at AKxxx...
These people are just trying to get a free meal by using the name of AKxxx...shame to say that in this prestigeous company there are such people leading the programs who are in charge of changing kids lives....shame because they have NO INTEGRITY!
